Welcome to the New Mexico AWHONN section. Your leaders are:

Section Chair- Michelle McFail, MSN, RNC-OB, C- ONQS, CLSSGB– currently works as the Administrative Nursing Director at Lovelace Medical Center. She oversees operations for the emergency department, dialysis, behavioral health, and medical/surgical units. She has an extensive background in maternal/infant health. She started her career almost 30 years ago as a labor and delivery nurse. She completed her BSN in 1997 at Texas Woman’s University and completed her MSN with the focus being WHNP in 2008. She has served on several national committees for AWHONN including the Development Committee, Public Policy Committee and Nurse Protocol and Procedure Resource Review Committee.

 

Secretary- Sarah Patel, PhD, RN, C-EFM, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She teaches undergraduate and graduate students, and her research focuses on nursing interventions and the management of chronic pelvic pain in women. Dr. Patel earned her PhD in Nursing from UMKC and holds MSN, BSN, and ASN degrees. She is a past New Mexico AWHONN Section Chair and is excited to return as Secretary/Treasurer.
